Think of your brain as the most important muscle you have. It needs exercise to stay at it’s best, and regular cognitive stimulation from reading will leave you with better odds of success in everything you take on.
Reading is one variable we find time and time again associated with success as well as prolonged health. In the short-term, it can almost immediately reduce our stress and improve our focus. In the long term, it wields the power to ward off diseases like Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and leads to enhanced analytical and critical thinking capabilities, invaluable for taking us to our professional and personal goals.
“I just don’t have the time.” We understand, and although we could write all about the ritual of hiding away with a book and escaping the monotony, this is about a hack to get our foot in that door more often. The good news is that you can absorb the material while you’re going about most parts of your day by listening to audiobooks. You can actually get through more material than ever before without dedicating a single minute to reading.
The most convenient method of listening is audible. If you’re an avid reader it’s pretty straightforward, and well worth it. The book credit and discounts will save you money.
Audible’s membership is not a cheap service however ($15 per month!). And in totally honesty, the Gold Subscription is not the best option for everyone. This is why although we do recommend audible, we want to point out some useful tips for getting the most out of it and saving money.
1. Although it’s not advertised, there is a Silver Plan membership that costs half the price of Gold. You get one book credit every other month instead of every month, as well as the 30% discount on audiobooks. After signing up, go through My Account > Change or cancel my membership > Upgrade/downgrade my membership or contact customer service to make the change. This is perfect for intermediate readers looking to save money.
2. Pause your subscription for up to 3 months a year. Use your credits and discount to stalk up on audiobooks, then pause your subscription to save money. You will still have access to your library and buying books, you’re just not paying for the service!
3. Return the audiobooks. Any audiobook can be returned within 12 months of purchase. My Account > Purchase History > The book you ordered > Return.
4. Look for audiobooks that are on sale as well as free with your Prime membership. You can often upgrade your Kindle ebooks to audiobooks for a discount.
Using these tips, audible becomes much more affordable and practical. With it, you can use your time more productively.
